"In other news Astertech CEO has given his statement on the recent explosion of one of the company's facto-"
Amy turned off the radio. "Ugh, even in fictional worlds I can't get away from this stupid shit."
"Just goes to show that wherever we go, every place will have similar issues at one point or later. Perhaps its just the nature of us humans to-"
"Focus on the driving Court." Vex interrupted Courtney's incoming theorizing.
"Oops, yes, you're right, sorry." Courtney's eyes shifted back on the road in full concentration.
"I hope we're going to arrive wherever we're going soon. I'm getting a little hungry." Luna sighed from the backseat.
"You would be wouldn't you?" Sarah interjected meanly.
She receives a flick to the side of her head from Vex. "Shut, as if you're above food."
"Alright, quiet from the peanut gallery back there, we're going to be arriving soon so don't make me throw one of you overboard." Amy dismissed all three of them.
The 5 eventually arrived at their destination. Courtney parked the hover car she had borrowed with surprising ease.
The 5 got out of the car, turned and walked into the fast food place, which was their destination all along.
"Man, this was a great idea. Trying out interdimensional fast food places?" Amy said.
The other four were already at a self help kiosk ordering whatever looked good. Amy joined them.
The five got their food and sat down.
Amy opened her mystery bag that they sold for some reason unknown to the girls. Inside was a ticket.
"What's this? Ticket to enter the Hoverboard Grand Prix?"
"Like to participate?" Sarah's eyebrow raised.
"Look at the back, I can see more text." Luna spoke quietly.
Amy did as Luna told her to.
"Huh. 'You and at maximum 4 of your other friends have been chosen to participate in the experimental Hoverboard Grand Prix starting on the Nth of the Waxing Moon.'" Amy read. "Do you have a calendar synced to this world?" She turned to Courtney.
"Yeah, of course I do, you think so lowly of me. It's in 3 days."
The 5 looked at each other. This could be a brand new experience. Why not try it? If the Hoverboards are brand new and experimental, surely everyone would be on the same playing field.
"Let's see here." Vex scanned the QR code with her phone.
"The grand prix will be happening over 5 days on 5 different tracks. Steel City, Canyon Waterpark, AsterTech Factory #67, Desert Ruins and Sky Islands. The races will be elimination races. After each race ends, the lower placing half of the racers will be eliminated. In case you are in a team, you will be competing as one person. That's about all I can read out from this nonsense. It's full of technical jargon, like how is any layman supposed to read this?"
"Anyways, it looks like we need to input a code from the ticket 3 days before the tournament, so, about now-ish."
There wasn't even any time to look at each other in confusion before Amy shoved the ticket into Vex's hand.
"Sign us up."
"A-Are you sure? What if we get hurt or worse?" Luna panicked.
"Relax small fry, you just need to not suck." Sarah snarkily said to Lunay placing her hand on Luna's head before being kicked under the table by Vex in Luna's defense.
"Well I think I'd be quite nice. We didn't get these powers to do nothing with them, right?" Courtney finally spoke.
"Fine, so I'll sign us up then, okay?"
The 5 had different levels of enthusiasm, but ultimately, they all agreed.
